re: Compare and contrast sailing Farrier/Corsair trimarans w

I have a DF920. I've sailed on F28 and DF1000. I also had a few opportunities to sail against F boats in Long Island Sound. On a few different occasions I sailed against F24. In all conditions DF920 outsailed and outpointed F24, including in very light airs. In 10-12 KN of wind, 2 able-bodied sailor...

Reefing issues

Another note: it is very important to setup reefing properly. Please read older posts (maybe in the old format forum) that discuss chafing of the very expensive reefing lines (Dyneema/Spectra).

Reefing issues

Joyce, Did you buy your boat from Richard Suriani - US Dragonfly dealer? If so, you should contact him. He is very supportive and will show you in great detail what needs to be done for reefing. He will also show you in person how to use screacher. Otherwise, drive 3 hours south and visit us in NY m...

Sleeping in the amas

Sleeping on the floor is problematic becuase of the traveller. To sleep in the cockpit we use the folding seats the type that goes from flat to a self supporting seat (see West Marine catalog). Lying flat it is long enough from cabin to traveller. We use a cushion from traveller to transom. This way...

screecher diagram

I use screecher in light winds on all points of sail. Some people also use it in stronger winds instead of the spinnaker downwind. Richard Suriani gave a basic rule: it is safe to use it up to about 7 knots of boat speed. Above that I furl it fast and switch to genoa. The setup is very easy: I have ...

Re: Request for diagrams/pictures anchoring and mooring

On anchoring: I have 2 anchors - a fortress fx-16 and delta-22. I prefer fortress most of the time. It is lighter, sets better in mud. I have 2 anchor rodes: 12 foot chain on each, 5/8 inch double-braid nylon 140 feet and 5/8 inch 3-strand nylon 250 feet. The rope is attached to chain with a shackle...

Re: Trailer

I had a custom aluminum trailer built for me by Float-On in the US. The trailer is <450 kg (900 pounds). The original modified DF920 cradle is permanently attached to the trailer. I have the type of cradle where the boat is supported under the forward beam attchement points, and a flat platform supp...

Sleeping in the amas

Sleeping in the amas is not realistic. Sleeping on the trampoline is acceptable for 1 person (per trampoline) only since 2 people roll towards the center. The biggest disadvantage (in our climate - US/East Coast/New York/Long Island Sound) during the summer is you wake up drenched in morning dew/con...
