Your instinct is right cogniz -- don't delay that repair because it will fail completely (and hopefully not at the worst possible time). In my experience, the polyester bolt rope webbing only lasts about 3-4 years here in New England, even with the nets stored indoors from November through April. Th...

Mildew stains on cloth
Our wool curtains on the boat had developed widespread mildew spotting, and we found that soaking them overnight in a solution of OxiClean stain remover took care of it, 100%. I rubbed the stained areas of the curtains lightly against each other by hand after they had soaked a few minutes, and then ...

Thanks, but how do you attach the block to the mainsail headboard -- with a rope shackle? Rope shackle is too long and slow to operate on top square main when you need to release the top quickly to get it down. For smell abatement the answer lies not in cleaners or disinfection. The answer is aeration. Any organic material will decay ... if trapped without fresh air circulation the anaerobic bacteria will produce the foulest odors. If allowed to decay with adequate venting, the aerobic bacteria will flouri...

Re: Forward Support for Amas
I also have a DF1000. I added a line on each side with a snap shackle to the ama. The center hull attachment is simply tied around the aft end of my bow platform and it's plenty strong imho. The 1000's that came equipped with bow platform already had reinforced areas where the platform attaches. On...

I believe George is referring to a Model 1000. The folding (net) cable failed and the aluminum backup struts were not supported strongly enough at the cockpit wall attachments. The remedy was to reinforce the bow with fiberglass and backing plates from inside to provide a strong attachment, and atta...

Preventative maintenance is always a good thing on a boat. Otherwise things fail and usually at the worst possible moment, as you experienced in this case. You might be able to find suitable replacements at a marine consignment store or eBay. Re: Holding tank bladder - Lifespan?
Not familiar with black rubber tanks -- never heard of them being used by Quorning. After owning 3 DFs and sailing others I'd say it's "not their style" to use a bladder tank. Probably an owner mod.
I think you'll have to do your own assessment. Sorry I can't help more.

I think you should try it. The only time the current overcomes the wind is when the wind is light. It only takes 3-10 kilos of resistance to keep the ball away. The reason your cover is worn is because you are releasing the Easylock clutch while the line is under load. If you first take up the load with the winch, then release the clutch, you will not have excessive wear. You can use a bowline or a fishermans bend, or any other type of knot that will not sh...

To rub off the vinyl there are rubber wheels that attach to a drill that are sold to auto-body repair shops. You should be able to find them locally. The issue is anaerobic bacteria. There is no way to keep the hoses clear or introduce fresh air between pump-outs, so organic matter sits in the hose and tank, and stinks. The rudder downhaul swage fitting should be inspected on an annual basis. If it shows signs of corrosion or any strands are broken it should be replaced. You will need a 6mm (or 1/4") 7x19 wire with an eye on each end. One eye must be attached after the cable is pulled and in place. The Drawing...
