I always stand to one side of the ama platform when moving the kayak in or out of the ama. When it’s inside I turn it a little so the rudder is protected and pushes it with my foot until it is stuck underneath the PE foam under the store room. When doing this the kayak slides on the bigger PE foam. ...

We have been sailing around with two kayaks for three seasons now. Both are touring kayaks, not seagoing kayaks. One is a Coastrunner the other is a Neumann carbon kayak. The Coastrunner is 54cm wide and is easy to paddle; the other is 51cm wide so you need a little experience to use it. None of the...

Broken fitting in aka
For your information The fitting that feeds the backstay and fold out line into the aka on the port side broke two weeks ago. It was the weld between the plate and the "tube" that broke when the fold out line was tightened. Inspecting the other one on the starboard side showed a crack in t...

Correct, I tested on my boat yesterday. When starting the engine the start battery is charged imidately. When the voltage is above a given value (I'm not sure of the value, could not observe all the time but something like 13.0 - 13.5V) the relay connects the battery systems together. You can hear i...

Hi Penry, Your conclusions are correct, the batteries are not bridged and the solar regulator only shows the voltage of the housing batteries (same on my boat). The problem could be related to the relay, the voltage sensor or a bad connection. The items behind the panel are: 50A fuse “Direct” is for...

That's ok, I'll try with some more information based on what I know about the electrics for the DF35. The battery parallel switch should connect the start battery in parallel with the other batteries if voltage is 12.6V or more, and the light should be on. If voltage is below 12.6V the start battery...

I would say no, so something must cause this, but you don’t say how high the charging amperage is. I’m an electronic engineer but not a specialist on batteries but here are some details from my boat. I do have a solar panel on deck and this is normally enough to charge the batteries during summertim...

Changed oil specification for saildrive
Volvo Penta recommends that all S-drives change from ATF oil to engine oil SAE 15W-40 at next oil change.

If the plastic tube hasn't moved to far out it’s possible to get it back. I pushed it back 40cm today. When unfolded, secure the safety wire in the bough. Then release the outhaul line and the tension on the wire will disappear. If this is not enough, take a rope through the barberhaul block and fas...

Mario, the autopilot is now mounted, used the method you described. The frame for mounting the autopilot was already in place, and inserting the 4 pin bolts was just a little difficult. According to the Jefa manual the torque for the fastening of the autopilot should be 3Nm, so that the shock absorb...

Sensor cleaned
Cleaned the sensor yesterday and system shows 0 again when the tank is empty. Had to remove a lot of salt deposits on the float and on the inside and outside of the perforated protection tube around the float . A hard and sharp plastic scraper is the best tool to do this, when the sensor parts are s...

Mine also shows 15% as minimum, even when the macerator pump is sucking air. It showed 0% when the boat was new so I think it is necessary to clean the sensor. Read an article in a magazine describing this problem, and plan to clean the sensor during Eastern. The holding tank is vented through the o...

The system is made so that 12V is connected to radio, solar cell, heater glow, bilge pump and the main switch in the electric panel all the time. When you operate the main switch in the electric panel a solenoid connects/disconnects the main power to all other equipment in the boat. The clunk you he...

Red LED night lights in saloon and shower
The spot lights gives very good light in the saloon and shower when your in the harbour at night, but is not so convenient when sailing in the dark. Exchanged the two LED spots on the starboard side in the shower with similar red ones. You find them at www.superbrightleds.com. The lamps inside the s...

Just for your information, the two thinner wires are for the clutch. I just bought the autopilot from Jefa, and on this one the fuse is mountet on the wire and not inside the autopilot. Just some more information. A dimmer can be used together with LED-lamps to aproximately 50% light. At least this works fine in my DF35 where I have installed 6xSMD LED in all downlights and other lamps. Except for special occasions I find a reduction of 20-30% suitable for the downlights. Anchor an...

Delamination of keel
Third week of this summer holiday we observed vibrations in the keel. After lifting up the boat we found that the keel was broken. Had to cut away most of it and put a strap around the rest to hold it together. No problem sailing home, and expects a new keel from Quorning this week. The reason for t...

No problems this summer
Thanks for your suggestion. I checked the hot water over pressure valve, it ends up in a tube just below the engine. No water there, but some indications of smaller amounts of water. A lot of heavy weather this summer holiday but no water in the engine room.
18 knots on Oslo Fjord
Here is another Youtube link recorded only two days ago. The boat is a DF35 touring. True wind angle 80-90 degrees, wind speed 20 +-2 knots. Two hours of sailing and average speed approximately 11 knots. This was the second time doing a little above 18 knots. Not bad for a touring boat. Think it sho...

Water in engine room
It’s definitely not the latches leaking. The water was seeping through the isolation material in the engine room. Broken through-hull fitting
I’ve experienced that the through-hull fitting for the bilge pump was broken. Since I think this was caused by force applied to the house from the seat above I suggest all other owners to check theirs. When doing some work in that area, I noticed the tube could be moved, but I had to apply some forc...

Hi guys, I agree with penryj, a single forum would be best. The reason for not posting anything before is that I wanted some experience with the boat first.
