Setting up DF800 MkII Spinnaker rigging
Setting up DF800 MkII Spinnaker rigging
My boat did not come with a spinnaker or the sheets and blocks.
I am going to set it up for a normal spinnaker using barberhaulers off the front of the ama's as per the plan on this site.
My questions are :-
1: What size blocks should I use for the barberhaulers and the spinnaker sheets? I am tending to think that 40mm sheaves would be sufficient.
2: What is the dimension of a standard square spinnaker ie. Luff length etc?
Regards
Ken

Setting up DF800 MkII Spinnaker rigging
Ken:
Not a direct answer to your question, but may be a recommendation.
I used to have a 25 before my 1000, I had a bow spirt on it instead of the "soft bridal".
Now there is a way of cheating and doing this in an "economical way".
Look for a Corsair F24 bow sprit. They fit quite nicely on the 800's
and they are about 1/3 of the price that Quorning charges.
It also gives you the flexabilty to run a screecher instead of the chute.
I guarantee you will have more fun with a screecher than a chute and use it more often.
You can run both from the pole. Also the F24 screecher works on the 800.
Just some ideas to keep it fun and economical.

Spinnaker Choice
Ted
Thanks for the advice but I have just been given a spinnaker which is pretty full and I have jury rigged it and it is OK for broad reaching and square sailing. I am midway through the season and will try it out. I have ordered 4 * 50mm blocks for the spinnaker sheets and 4 * 40mm blocks for the Barberhauler.
I will try and set up a bowspit during the comming winter. I am on the lookout for a good (broken) windsurfer pole to use.
Thanks

Spinnaker dimensions
The spinnaker I have been given and set up is too small.
I have set the boat up for a standard spinnaker as I have not yet got a bowsprit (Winter project!).
I am looking at purchasing a second hand spinnaker in the mean time.
What are the dimensions of a standard (not assymetrical) spinnaker?
I have the opportunity of purchasing a pinnaker with the dimensions of Luff=13.9 Leach=13.9 Foot =7.2m.
Would this be suitable?

Spinnaker dimensions
At first look I think it may be a little on the large side. To be sure, measure the spinnaker halyard exit point, the one above the jib halyard, to both the deck straight down the mast, and to either the tip of the bow sprit or bridal. The foot dimension of 7.2 m might be a bit long. If you can find a chute from an F24 they work nicely.
