Another turtled DF28: https://m.youtube.com/watch?v=8u0wP1mP7v8
Here it looks like attaching a bridle to the ama and main hull bows and towing it over the stearn could right it at sea. And this was the water has the clear escape path from the cabin.

Great idea about the second rope! This way it will also give the signal that the first one broke (when the rudder slips aft)! Thanks Mika! One-off rudder? Just higher aspect ratio or something else? Have you considered adding winglets? I asked about them here: http://forums.sailinganarchy.com/index....

I am thinking about that. What diameter Dyneema do you use? Do you use thimbles and splicing to preserve breaking strength or just oversized rope? At least on the 35 it goes through a 90-degree bend in the pipe and would rub against it (no way to have a block there). I guess the pipe is smooth enoug...

Rudder downhaul cable
I got a couple splintered strands in the cable that connects the rudder itself to the downhaul line. So remembering Larry's advice I want to replace it, but the eye fitting doesn't get through the 90-degree elbow in the metal tube. I could just cut the cable and replace it with one that has one of t...

There is a diagram in the printed boat manual. It is fairly straightforward with the lines in red and green. There is a hole at the corner of the board. The line enters it and then there is a round opening in one of the sides. Not unlike some IKEA furniture. You tie a knot and it resides in that ope...

I've heard some accounts of how a more stretchable rope (nylon) works better because it absorbs shocks via elasticity rather than slippage. But in general this should not happen. My rudder had to be faired with sandpaper because it did not fit perfectly into the cassette. I pull really hard on the r...

Fort Lauderdale -- neighbor! Can't answer directly, because I haven't, but also would chip in that you don't need it. The inside space is simply not big enough to spend a lot of time there. Having said that, the heater system works pretty well, so the ducts are there, no reason one can't put A/C in.

Yep, this is an option, although feels wrong -- sailing it over is much more in the spirit of it! Sailing it down from Seattle to LA (with our own Steve B!) was one of the weeks in my life that I still look back to fondly. Things look pretty shallow around here and in the Bahamas -- perfect for a Dr...

California - Florida Dragonfly 35/1200 swap?
So I moved to a new job in Boca Raton, FL, and miss my 35 on the west coast. One solution is to sail it down to Panama and then up to Florida. The problem of course is that from Panama it's uphill motoring mostly, as far as I can tell. (and I have a job where I can only take one week vacations far a...

Thanks Larry, this should work if not too windy.
Have you ever tried using the "platform lift" (you sail over the platform, then blocks are placed under the bottom and drom the sides, then the platform lifts)?
Kind of like this:
